Self-directed artist residencies and retreats from our architect-designed eco-villa in the South of France

10 years in the making, Villa Ossom is now ready to open it’s doors to visitors. The intention of the project has always been for it to become a place to be creative, to be peaceful, and to be inspired by the stunning natural, Provençal landscape that surrounds the property.

We want to share our little piece of heaven with you and your creative spirit, and are now offering the opportunity to be an artist in residence or retreat participant all year round. Stays at Ossom are best suited to those who have a self-directed artist practice and who want to immerse themselves in their personal practice in a tranquil setting.

What we offer at Ossom:

  • Artist Residencies

We provide accommodation for self-directed artist residencies. These range from 1 to 4 weeks. While here you can make use of the shared creative spaces in the house and grounds, shared use of the kitchen and your own private en-suite bedroom. Our artist-studio is still under construction but there’s plenty of space and many different spaces to get work from. Enquire here for more information.

  • Retreats

We held our first retreat here at Ossom in October 2023. The Scaravelli-inspired yoga and creative inquiry retreat was held over 5 days by Beatrix and her friend Rebecca, who then held a similar retreat in Spring 2024. We are open to others holding retreats here, so please get in touch if you have an idea you’d like to explore.

Ossom

The creation of Ossom from idea to inception has been a family affair. Life-long Francophiles, Jonathan and Katherine Bliss wanted to live out their years somewhere they could feel the warmth of the sun on their faces, and smell the salt of the sea in the air. When they found this hilltop paradise, they knew it was the place to plant this seed of a home and sanctuary. With the support of their daughters, Beatrix and Siân, they set out on what would turn out to be a decade-long adventure to bring Villa Ossom to life.

Jonathan, a dreamer and visionary, had the audacity to conceive of the idea, whilst Katherine, pioneering sustainable architect, envisioned the design of this building that hugs the land on which it resides. When the foundations were barely set, Jonathan had a brain aneurysm, and after trying his best to live from the depths of a coma for over 2 months, tragically died.

In the wake of a huge life-upheaval and journey of deep grief, the Bliss women set about completing the house, as part of Jonathan’s living legacy. This journey saw many challenges, twists and turns, and at times, it wasn’t certain whether completing it would be possible at all.

The three women have been on big personal journeys of transformation, within the container of this family project that has ultimately brought about a deep sense of healing. The house has really taken on a life of its own, choosing in its own way, to exist against all odds.
